TOM AND TH
This is a classic southern Rhone blend produced from Syrah and Grenache blend. It is soft and ripe, full of red fruit flavours with a touch of spice.
The cuvee is named after Tom Simpson. Born in County Durham, Simpson was one of Britain’s greatest cyclists, winning medals at both the 1956 Olympics and the 1958 Commonwealth Games. In 1959, Simpson moved to France, winning his first professional race, the Tour de Flanders, two years later. He was the first ever British rider to wear the Yellow Jersey, finishing sixth overall in the 1962 Tour de France in 1962. Five years later, on the thirteenth stage of the 1967 Tour, Simpson collapsed and died during an ascent of Mont Ventoux. He was 29 years old. A memorial on the roadside close to where he died has since become a place of pilgrimage and a portion of the proceeds of each bottle sold go toward the upkeep of the memorial.
